View Photo »We have to realize one thing - that teams are going to be desperate
Vesa knows how I've always worked with goalies ... Nabby (Evgeni Nabokov) was No. 1 and Vesa was playing better than him down the stretch so we started Vesa the last 20 games of the season and used him into the playoffs. Nabby eventually got it back from him the following season.
I wasn't sitting there thinking about the Olympics
We didn't get emotionally involved until the third Evgeni Nabokov stopped 20¥shots, and Patrick Marleau and Devin Setoguchi added goals for San Jose. We got back to doing a lot of things we need to do to get back to winning ... We were pretty well rested and it was nice to win a division game.
I think it's a message we have a good team ... We as players, you think what you have is good enough. If a team is near the top, they should be able to do it in the playoffs.
We have all the tools to move forward
It's a message that we have a good team and all the tools to go forward
We thought for a while it was time to get something new
I don't know how you compare the two ... You have to perform, and it doesn't matter whether you're playing the Stanley Cup playoffs or the Olympics or the world championships. It's important, no matter what.
I don't know how you compare the two ... You have to perform, and it doesn't matter whether you're playing the Stanley Cup playoffs or the Olympics or the world championships. It's important, no matter what.
But that's sports, you know? One time you win and one time you lose. You hear people saying different things, but you can't concentrate on one thing. Because it's a game and tomorrow's a new day, I guess. I had my couple days, and now it's time to get going.
Any time you lose that type of game, with that many people watching, with that much history behind both countries, that sucks
I don't think one game makes you this or that — whatever it is, a loss or a win. Your whole career makes you who you are
They were coming like crazy and they haven't stopped
I think we were out of sync a little bit, yes ... It was teamwork, and it was also my fault. As a goalie, you always want to make every key save, even if there's a defensive breakdown. You want to make a difference. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to.
They jumped on us very early and never let up ... They kept coming and coming and coming. Those early goals made the difference.
Absolutely, I'm happy for them ... But I just wish we (Russia) could have been there in the final playing in that game. That's what everyone wants.
He's a difference-maker ... But so are all of those guys. I thought Patty did a helluva job when he screened me on that goal . . . That's Canadian hockey right there. They stay in front, they shoot and they're there for the rebound.
I had no idea where the puck was
They scored three minutes into the game (by Getzlaf) and they keep coming, keep coming ... We weren't able to stop the bleeding and they played a hell of a game. I don't think they surprised us with the physicality but how hungry they were.
We knew that with the crowd behind them, they were going to come. The first goal, I thought it came too quick ... They scored the goal, and then after that they kept coming and we weren't able to stop the bleeding.
That's Canadian hockey right there
They keep coming, keep coming
After that they kept coming, and we weren't able to stop the bleeding
It's never easy being pulled ... It's not easy to watch from the bench.
