View Photo »I think the offense is going, but we're just running into some hot goalies in this league
And then we might have some more cerebral, anticipation-type penalty killers ... Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton are more calculated.
The thing is we're creating a lot of shots, getting a lot of chances, and when you do that Heatley finally broke the ice against Mason and the Blue Jackets when he took a quick pass from Joe Thornton and scored on a power play at 7:53 of the third period. Back door
Their big line (of Joe Thornton, Dany Heatley and Patrick Marleau) has taken it to us and they’re whole team has.
The offense was going, but you run into some hot goalies around this league
Joe's in the best shape of his life. He's playing the way that Todd wants him to play in all areas of the rink, as is Patty and Dany Heatley ... So I think it's the maturing of our guys coming into their prime. You can call it experiential learning, I guess. A lot of top players in the league and a lot ...
It just bounced off me, a little tip
We're better in some ways that really matter ... but we have a lot of work to do. It helps that we have more guys we can draw on night in and night out, that we're not just relying on the big guys (notably, the Oly Line of Joe Thornton, Dany Heatley and Patrick Marleau), but a lot of things still have t...
was great to see. They were having fun.
I used to like playing with right handed wingers until Dany Heatley
The reason teams are in this tournament is that they're able to win in all types of games, all sorts of situations
Slovakia upset Russia, they upset Sweden ... When it comes down to it, in those elimination games, anything can happen, especially when you get a lot going and get some breaks.
It's not really very different ... You look at it like any game. Anyone you're playing against, you're trying to beat. But there was big hype for that game and to go up 4-0 that early was a surprise.
Just doing things better ... Guys have got to get the puck in deep, we've got to get the forecheck really going, and that's going to be their game, as well. We have to do things cleaner, better, make things happen.
We know how into it everyone is ... but it's not like we're out there in the middle of it. We're here in the Village the night before, hanging out.
When you get to the playoff games they're all going to be emotional, they're all going to be big games and whoever you play is going to be a tough game
Basically they've had the same core group for a long time, Chara's a good D-man back there and they have a lot of speed up front, a lot of skill, so it's something we have to be aware of
I feel like we're getting a little better each game ... We're going to try and take the fact that we now have one extra game to play as a positive.
He's a real good positional guy. He's very good side to side
That's kind of the NHL now
It's always an honor to put on the (Canadian) jersey, whatever kind of tournament it is
This is a tournament where we have to get better every game ... It was a good start tonight, but games are going to get tougher and we've got to get better. We've got a lot of great players in there that just have to stick to the game plan, stick to what we do, and things are going to be good.
I think that's going to be a big theme throughout the tournament, get pucks by their D to get to work in the other end
The crowd was great ... There was even more red and white than I imagined. It was a great atmosphere. They were loud, and they’re going to get louder just like us.
Each game is going to get tougher, so we have to get better, but it was a good start
